Sonic Restoration
Organisms respond to sounds in various ways. We aim to use sounds to stimulate organisms in ways that enhance ecosystem restoration.
We’re using the sounds emitted by organisms to understand ecosystem health. But we’re also applying sounds to stimulate organisms like microbes to enhance the restoration process. Our preliminary studies show that plant growth-promoting fungi activity increases when stimulated with monotonous sounds. Playing natural soundscapes can also enhance ecosystem restoration by encouraging colonisation by keystone species.
